Look, sing and play in early years

The NSPCC have shared some resources with us to support and encourage interactions between parents/carers and their babies.

Parents and carers interact with their babies all the time without always realising how those interactions shape the way their baby’s brain develops.

Improving interaction and encouraging parents to be more sensitive to their baby’s cues helps parents identify and respond to their needs.

It also improves attunement and sensitivity of parents from an early stage, setting up positive behaviour as their child grows.

Environmental health inspection-New Beginnings Loughton

Well done New Beginnings Loughton

On Friday the 8th of November an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) visited our New Beginnings Loughton nursery, unannounced, to inspect food hygiene standards. During the inspection visit the officer discussed the procedures and practices for food safety management, how we design our menus, allergy and dietary oversight and the physical conditions of the kitchen environment.

We are delighted to confirm that we were re-awarded a 5-star score. A score of 5 represents high food safety standards. The inspector also commented on the “excellent practice that had been observed during the visit“. Discussing the strengths with the inspector she commented on our strong management of dietary and allergies and how amazing it was to see a nursery with a great chef, housekeeper duo.

A huge congratulations to Margherita, Chris and Laura for such a successful inspection.

Fussy Eaters a short guide.

Food refusal is a normal part of childhood development and something that most parents will experience at some point. Just like getting to grips with anything new, adapting to new foods takes time, practice and a fair bit of reassurance. Children learn through experience. Our role as parent or carer is not to make children eat but to create a comfortable and secure environment where children feel confident enough to start exploring new foods at their own pace.

Why is it important to read to children ?

The significance of reading for children is truly invaluable. Engaging in reading for enjoyment can greatly enhance a child's education, social and cognitive growth, as well as their overall wellbeing and mental health.

Additionally, reading offers numerous benefits for a child's development, including:

Supporting Cognitive Development.
Cognitive development encompasses how we perceive and understand our surroundings in relation to intelligence, reasoning, language growth, and information processing. By reading to children, you provide them with a profound understanding of their world and enrich their minds with essential background knowledge. This acquired knowledge helps them make sense of their observations, which supports their cognitive development.

Fostering Empathy.
When we read a story, we immerse ourselves in the narrative. This experience allows us to cultivate empathy as we connect with the lives of various characters and relate to their feelings. Children can then apply this understanding to empathise with others in real life. Moreover, this exposure helps them grasp emotions better, aiding their social development.

Enhancing Understanding.
Books can transport us anywhere: to another city, a different country, or even an entirely new realm. Through reading, a child discovers people, places, and events that they may not otherwise encounter. This exploration fosters a deeper understanding of the world and diverse cultures.

Strengthening Relationships.
Regular reading sessions between a parent and child can lead to a more robust bond. It creates a shared experience that both look forward to, fostering feelings of attention, love, and reassurance essential for nurturing and wellbeing.

Supporting our local food banks

This term we have been celebrating the harvest festival, as part of this celebration we put a donation box together across all 3 nurseries to help and support our local food banks. We also used this opportunity to teach the children about kindness, sharing and the importance of helping others. Over at our Loughton nursery one of our parents works at a local foodbank they kindly collected the food for us and took the food there for us. We received a certificate of appreciation from the foodbank and they were all very grateful for all the food that was so kindly donated.

How to Pay for Nursery with Tax Free Childcare

What is tax-free childcare?

Tax-Free Childcare is a government initiative designed to help working families with the cost of childcare. It’s affordable and accessible to those who need it most.

It’s designed to be a simple and convenient way to save on costs when registering your child at nursery and is accepted across all our nurseries.

So how does it work?

For every 80p you pay into your Tax-Free Childcare account, the government will add an extra 20p, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year, or £4,000 for children with additional needs.

This means that for every £8 you pay in, you’ll get £2 back from the government.

What are the benefits ?

It helps families save money on childcare costs, by adding government funds to the amount they pay in. This is done automatically, and you can use the money when it shows as ‘available’.

It’s also easy to use and doesn’t require complicated forms or extra benefits to be claimed.
