Early Education Entitlement Funding- Understanding childcare funding

 

The early years entitlements are:


  • the 15 hours entitlement for eligible working parents of children from 9 months to 2 years old (new entitlement from 1 September 2024)
  • the 15 hours entitlement for eligible working parents of 2-year-old children (new entitlement from 1 April 2024)
  • the 15 hours entitlement for disadvantaged 2-year-olds
  • the universal 15 hours entitlement for all 3 and 4-year-olds
  • the additional 15 hours entitlement for eligible working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds


The entitlement hours are up to 15 hours of childcare a week over 38 weeks of the year (equivalent to a maximum of 570 hours a year), or, for 3 and 4-year-olds, up to 30 hours of childcare a week over 38 weeks of the year for qualifying children of working parents (equivalent to a maximum 1,140 hours a year). From September 2025, eligible working parents of children aged 9 months and above will be able to access 30 hours (over 38 weeks a year) from the term following their child turning 9 months to when they start school.

September 2024 -      9 month plus funding

From 12th May 2024 applications open for  families who believe they meet the criteria for support with their childcare fees . For those who are eligible there is a maximum of 15 hours of free childcare or early education for 38 weeks.


A total of 570 hours per year, that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare provider.

April 2024 2 year funding

April 2024 - For families in England, receiving some forms of support. With 2-year-old children 15 hours of free childcare or early education for 38 weeks.


To be able to take up 15 hours of free childcare for your two-year-old you or your child must meet the eligibility criteria. 


A total of 570 hours per year, that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare provider.

Universal funding
 3 year olds

 For families in England with a 3-year-old or 4-year-old child.


15 hours of free childcare or early education for 38 weeks, which is stretched over 51 weeks of the year at New beginnings. 


A total of 570 hours per year, that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare provider.

Extended funding
3 year olds

 For working families in England with a 3-year-old or 4-year-old child.

30 hours of free childcare or early education for 38 weeks, which is stretched over 51 weeks of the year at New beginnings. 

A total of 1140 hours per year, that you can use flexibly with one or more childcare provider if you qualify and receive a code from the government.

Early Education Entitlement Funding- Understanding childcare funding in 2024 and 2025

9 Months to 2 years

From September 2024, 15 hours childcare support will be extended to eligible working parents of children from the age of 9 months to 3-year-olds.


From September 2025, eligible working parents of children under the age of 5 will be entitled to 30 hours of childcare a week.

2 years to 3 years

Currently Some eligible parents of 2-year-old children may also be entitled to 15 hours childcare support, if they receive some additional forms of government support.


From April 2024, eligible working parents of 2-year-olds will be able to access 15 hours childcare support.


From September 2025, eligible working parents of children under the age of 5 will be entitled to 30 hours of childcare a week.

3 years plus

All parents and carers of 3 and 4-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours a week childcare support with registered childcare providers. Eligible working parents and carers of children aged 3-4 can also get an additional 15 hours childcare support, bringing their total up to 30 hours a week
