A small nursery with a big heart
New Beginnings Rainham holds a very special place in our story. Founded in 2005 by our Managing Director, Joanna Wilkinson, it was the very first New Beginnings nursery. The nursery has a unique history. Originally a family home and later a doctor's surgery, the property has been lovingly transformed into a warm, welcoming nursery while retaining the sense of home and family that has always been at the heart of New Beginnings.
From the beginning, our aim has been to create a place where children feel known, valued and encouraged to be themselves. Our dedicated team takes time to build genuine relationships with children, joining them in their play, conversations and discoveries and celebrating the individuality that makes every child unique.
New Beginnings Rainham has three dedicated nursery rooms, each thoughtfully designed to support children's learning and development at every stage of their early years journey. Our outdoor learning environment is made up of different spaces, offering a variety of surfaces, equipment, resources and activities. These spaces give children opportunities to explore, investigate, be active and challenge themselves, while developing their confidence and independence through outdoor play. Across the nursery, our environments are carefully considered to provide children with opportunities to follow their curiosity, develop new skills and learn through meaningful experiences.
Our commitment to providing exceptional care and early years education has been recognised through a number of achievements. Rainham has been awarded Outstanding across three consecutive Ofsted inspections, reflecting the consistently high standards of care, education and leadership within the nursery.
Over two decades after opening our doors, Rainham remains an important part of the New Beginnings family. While our nursery has grown and evolved, our founding values remain the same: to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children are known as individuals, supported to flourish and given the very best foundations for their future.
MEET THE MANAGER
Laura Westmoreland
Laura has been part of the New Beginnings family since July 2007, when she joined our Rainham nursery as a Level 3 Nursery Practitioner.
Over the past 19 years, Laura has continued to grow both personally and professionally, building extensive experience across the early years and developing into a confident and dedicated leader.
In May 2022, Laura took the next step in her career when she became Nursery Manager at New Beginnings Loughton. During her time there, she led and supported the nursery team, helping to create a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where children could thrive and receive the very best care and learning experiences.
In February 2026, we were delighted to welcome Laura back to where her New Beginnings journey began, as Nursery Manager at Rainham. Returning to Rainham holds particular significance for Laura. Having spent many years at the setting earlier in her career, she has a deep understanding of its history, values and community. Her experience and knowledge allow her to lead with confidence while continuing to build an environment where children, families and practitioners feel supported and valued.
Laura is passionate about seeing children flourish. She particularly loves watching them grow in confidence, develop new skills, overcome challenges and take pride in their achievements. he has the opportunity to continue being part of those special moments.
From Nursery Practitioner to Nursery Manager, and from Rainham to Loughton and back again, Laura's journey is a wonderful example of growing with New Beginnings.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – Safeguarding Requirements
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the statutory safeguarding and welfare requirements that all early years providers must follow.
These requirements ensure providers:
- Protect children from harm and promote their welfare.
- Recruit and maintain suitable staff through safer recruitment and ongoing suitability checks.
- Appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to oversee safeguarding practice.
- Provide regular safeguarding training and supervision for staff.
- Follow robust procedures for recognising, recording and responding to concerns.
- Promote safe environments through effective risk management, safer sleep practices, safe mealtimes and good health and hygiene.
- Work in partnership with families and safeguarding agencies to support children's safety and wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records and share information appropriately where this helps protect children.

Our Nursery Rooms
Raindrop Classroom 0-2 years
Welcome BookletThis room is full of a wide variety of educational toys, books, puzzles, construction resources and sensory materials to stimulate the children’s senses and challenge their minds. For new children starting with us, we focus on building consistency and stability between home and nursery to ensure a smooth transition for the whole family, and a solid foundation for a wonderful relationship to begin between our family and yours.
Every child is allocated a key person who supports them between drop off to pick up. Your child’s key person will be responsible for their individual weekly planning and next steps, as well as helping parents to continue building on what the children have learnt at home.
Rainbow Classroom 2-3 years
Welcome BookletIn the Rainbow room, we have a particular focus on allowing the children to lead their learning using construction, role play, small world play, musical instruments and natural resources. We also introduce numbers, colours and letters to the children in a fun and engaging way. Your child’s key person will be responsible for carrying out carefully planned activities to help them further their learning, as well as build on their social and emotional development.
Of primary importance is a strong partnership with parents to ensure a smooth transition, either as a new starter or in moving up from the Raindrop room. We know that parents are a child’s first educator so strive to provide you with ideas for home, alongside advice and guidance around toilet training and behaviour management.
Sunshine Classroom 3-5 years
Welcome BookletWe take advantage of the children’s ever-growing knowledge to prepare them for their next adventure in school. We fulfil this by instilling confidence, and independence and encouraging curiosity and exploration through their play. We work alongside parents to get their children school-ready by suggesting activities to help with letter and number recognition, phonics and early reading and writing. We are also able to provide advice on choosing the right school for your child.
